Definition
A severe weather event that is unexpected and unusual for a particular time and place. Extreme weather includes heatwaves and cold waves, heavy rain and flash flooding, drought, and hurricanes. Extreme weather can have devastating impacts to human health, wildlife, infrastructure, and livelihoods and economies. Due to climate change, extreme weather events are increasingly common and intense.
