Definition

Climate justice recognises that people who have historically contributed the least to climate change and poor and marginalised groups will face the worst consequences of climate change. Climate justice seeks to redress this unfairness through advocacy, fair decision- and policy-making, and just climate action (including who bears the costs). Climate justice is a type of environmental justice, which refers to when poor and marginalised groups disproportionately experience environmental harms (such as waste or resource extraction) or unfair policies such as land appropriation (‘land grabbing’).
